LED industry in Asia ranks the first in the world. Japan, South Korea and China have a promising market development
Asian is now the major sales area of international LED lighting and the largest application area, taking up 40% of market share. It is a result of government aid, high economic growth and promotion of frequent construction activities.
Since 2010, Asia has become main manufacturing base of LED, the overall market share of Japan, South Korea and China reached up to 81.3%. South Korea grows fastest among Asian countries. Since the initiate of LED industry in 2002, South Korea created LED backlight LCD market in 2009. In order to ensure the source of crystalline grain, it actively expands the production, the market share nearly reached 10% by 2010.
Relying on the powerful development capacity for quality and technology, Japan is stably leading the development of international LED industry, with the market share reaching over 50% from 2000 to 2005. From 2006 to 2010, affected by Taiwan scale economy and low-price strategy and the active preemption of China and South Korea, its international market share decreased to 41.5%. And in 2011, the market scale of Japan LED substitution lighting market achieved $952 million in 2011 and $1.203 billion in 2012.
As for China, the market share maintained around 20% from 2003 to 2006 in Taiwan. After, it increased year by year and has reached to 25.3% by 2010. While the increase in mainland grew slightly and the market share in 2010 was only 5%. From the perspective of LED terminal lighting products, it is worthy paying close attention to the development of LED street light in outdoor lighting. The market scale of LED street lamp depends on the budget of the governments, which is the biggest difference from general consumer goods. Although the standards and specification of mainland LED street light are under formulating and we still hear about the situation of rule of man, however, supported by the policy of central and local governments, DIGITIMES Research forecasted it would be 1.32 million LED lights in mainland market, taking up to 32% of international market.
