LED will bring a revolution to the global lighting industry. In 2012, LED only takes 18% of the 66 Billion USD of global lighting market; But when it is 2020, it is estimated the LED market will be 100 billion USD, which is 70% of the world lighting market. The main driving force is come from the progress of LED lighting technology in the new market and energy cost supervisal, as well as the economic growth trend.
LED lighting coverage rate is different among asian countries. After gone through the nuclear crisis, the Japanese government worked hard to push the energy-saving market, this action makes the LED replace traditional lighting quicker.
Herry Eng, who is the CEO of GE lighting Asia, said:”In 2013, we have 26% increased of LED lighting sales in Asia, to me, it is too slow. Next year we want to increase by 60%”.
GE has spread its products to local markets of many countries and GE expect its sales of LED lighting product to increase 30%, as in 2012 and 2013, the increasing rate is separately 18% and 25%. GE lighting sales mainly come form the modern trading channel; For example, in Thailand, 55% of GE Led lighting sales come from this, and then 15% of sales come from Car lighting and special lighting sales channel. Besides, OEM and project and retailer channel each takes 10%. Project sales will become a new increasing point and is estimated to increase by 42% this year, and even 50% next year. On the aspect of sales categories, CFL takes 30%, the next is LED, takes 20%, then halogen and other lighting product.
Henry Eng believes, to LED lighting product, the Public awareness of brand is still the core reason to buy the LED product.
